Back in 2003 my friend Brian introduced me to an Aussie, Adam, who was way into house and damn good at improv and sexy basslines. He liked one of my breakbeat tracks of the time, Better Blue, and asked me if he could remix it. I always enjoy letting people remix my tracks, especially if they enjoy ‘em as much as I do (and who didn’t love Better Blue?).

Now we fast-forward three years! I have totally forgotten that Adam (now going under the quirky pseudonym of Dogberry) took up remixing the track until he presented me the following, something that instantly reminds me of old school Royksopp (which is a good thing). He even extended the Cosby vocal and the finished product is a minimal house affair that just seems to work! So without further prolonging the mp3 download, here ya go! Enjoy and thanks Dogberry! Awesome remix!

Better Blue (Dogberry remix)

Oh yeah, and he even did a little graphic for it! How awesome is that?!

Check out the latest and greatest track from wytebred! Actually a lot of help was provided by Brian (aka Vreahli) so I can’t take all of the credit. I am personally excited about this project since it’s the first real collaboration between us since Better Blue, which most agree is the finest wytebred track of all time. Personally, I think this rivals Better Blue, but I’ll let the listeners be the judge. And not only that but it’s a return to sampling. I dug deep into the record bin for these samples. You’ll have to know your obscure 70’s children’s albums to pick this one apart!

Forever Grey

To top that off, bazooie took a little time to help shape the track! Maybe one day he’ll finish a track of his very own.

- This news has two parts and then some. First up, Hyperbubble took some time to remix “Midnight’s Calling” into a wonderful new experience!

Midnight’s Calling ( Way Past Your Bedtime Mix by Hyperbubble)

Okay, that’s the first half of the deal! The other half is that I got to remix one of their tracks. So get both tracks now and rock out!

Hyperbubble - Passing Phase (wytebred remix)

Secondly, expect “These Wishes for You” to be done in a couple of weeks!

- Miss me? I’m finally back from Asia (Japan, Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China to be precise)! It was a crazy fun trip and I’ll post some stories and photos for all six of you that care as soon as I can.

Photo from atop of the peak in Hong Kong around 7pm. Pretty cool, eh?

Clcik here to see even more!

- Wow! I just got back from seeing Royksopp up in San Francisco at Bimbo’s 365 Club (which was way over-crowded) and they were pretty amazing for doing a majority of their songs live. Of course, a good portion of it was just sequenced but the male vocals were all performed as well as (on what I think was a Roland V-Drums series kit) a bunch of percussion. Also, the duo synthed it out with some classic Korgs and such. All of the new album they played sounded fantastic, but truly the best part was the first mix of “Eple” that just sounded amazing. The live version of “So Easy” also was much more rockin’ and the “Blue on Blue” sample on those speakers was just so much more heavy and enjoyable.

The one thing that confuses me about the new album, which I adore, is the lack of sampled material. In Melody AM I believe every track is set up around a source sample and built up. As far as I can tell, they have totally ditched the sample scene for synths. Now, if you have been listening to my new material, I cannot criticize, but still, they have definitely changed their sound. Is it for the best? Maybe, maybe not. On a side note, where is the Ernest Saint Laurent remix of one of their new tracks?! The godly transformation of “Remind Me” into an arpeggiated dance dream with the most magical saw bass from the first album sits atop my list of best remixes ever. I think I shall go purchase the album!

In other news, I’d like to introduce anyone who hasn’t used it, to a VSTi I just can’t get enough of, OHM Force’s Minimonsta:Melohman! I does just about everything Moog Modular does but doesn’t kill your CPU when you attempt to load five instances. All in all, it’s a great Moog emulator with tons of presets that can be tweaked out with the greatest of ease. I’m currently using it on the Hyperbubble remix I plan to finish up sometime soon. The price is also very tempting. Go check out their demo now!

- What’s new? Me and the Triple G continued work on a lovely new piece of music last night and ate pizza and drank Redhook. Good times were had by the both of us until the season finale of The Shield came on and work ceased. I’ll try and have something in the coming weeks.

Also, I cleaned up a few of my tracks with this great VST library pack called EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Silver Edition that Troels at work turned me on to. It was a toss up between EWQL and Garritan Personal Orchestra. He claimed EWQL was better in every way to GPO and as far as I can tell, it is quite nice!

On a similar note, my friend Kevin also pointed me to this wacky Russian site, audionews.ru, for those that like to check out all of the latest sample packs when those mp3 demos just aren’t enough (honestly, I am to pay $300 for software before I truly know what it does?!). Now, I respect what these guys are trying to do out there in Russia (not that many people are probably buying the software after demoing it), but damn if they don’t have some zanny rules to abide by with their logs, restricted accounts, and secret club handshakes.

- E3! It’s all the rage if you are into that sort of thing. Sure, it’s a blast the first time around but it becomes old hat after the fourth time or so. Why do all of the next-gen games look like every object was dipped in plastic wrap and thrown into a deep, dark well? There is such a thing as over-using specular mapping.

I took a few pics of the show so check them out! There were a bunch of great games being shown but nothing totally surprising from anyone. I am interested in a publisher called Webzen and what they are up to. I have been toying with the idea to form a publishing company for many years since E3 2001 when I saw the explosion of Korean and Chinese developers and their eagerness to break into the American market. Well, I’m not much of a business man, nor do I have boatloads of money or the time to oversee the translating of languages I can barely comprehend. However, I do wish them well in their venture.

Also, since I’m currently working on the multiplayer madness for 25 to Life I decided to start working on a hip-hop themed track for fun. I even brought aboard my favorite MC, Bias! Peep my instrumental beat, homies!

- I chatted with Jeff of Hyperbubble today and he granted me the honor of remixing one of their tracks! I really dig their synthpop sound and I’m overjoyed to work with vocals! Fear not, it’ll have that wytebred style you have learned to love (it’s a tough love, I know).

And I wanted to take this time to introduce you to this wonderful product:

Oh yeah. . .even pirates like Wasabi Funyuns!

- So, April 14 we go out to see our friend Billy spin at a bar up in Burlingame. Good times were had by most but I limited my drinking since I was the driver. Since Pat was drunk enough to let me take a stupid picture of him dancing, I thought it would also be wise to manipulate his image in some constructive way. Check out what I like to call “Pat Goes to the Mayor” based on the quirky Tim and Eric production on Adult Swim.

Click on the image and check out the guy doing some serious dirty dancing in the mirror!

Also, I dug up a slightly old experiement I kinda like. I never had a name for it so it’s an untitled ending track.

- So, here’s my weekend in one post! While up in the city (that being San Francisco) Saturday, I picked up the new Lemon Jelly DVD and the latest am-boy vinyl at Amoeba on Haight. Both are truly excellent experiences! JL didn’t lie when they have a disclaimer on their new album warning the listener it’s not the old Lemon Jelly (on a side note, you can find one of their tracks in the background of the new Hitchhiker’s Guide trailer). Am-boy, of course, proves that FL Studio can kick out some great tunes in the right hands (wish the album was a bit longer though).

With music in tow we headed over to Cha Cha Cha which is a great little tapas-styled restaurant. . .if you don’t mind waiting two hours! Once done there, we were harassed by the SFPD for not having a license plate on the front of my car and learned my brother still has issues with the traffic court. . .and according to the police, one of my shirts appears covered in blood.

Sunday, we bounce downtown to probably the best Chinese restaurant in existance, House of Nanking. I’ll have to compare it to when I actually visit Hong Kong and Macao this summer. In the mean time, look for this colorful sign next time you are over on Columbus.

Don’t be fooled by how run down it looks though (oddly enough, last year they closed down to remodel but it still looks pretty lame inside and out). Inside, you’ll find the most amusing owner that will order your food for you. You tell him what you WILL eat and he will whip you up a five course meal in about 10 minutes. GO NOW! Tell him you want “Pork, chicken, beef, and shrimp!”
